The above captioned photos from instagram (updated all the time), and the following bits of whimsy, observation, and dietary documentation shall compose a blog to be updated semi-regularly by Mr Joe Novelli. This was the prime responsibility of our chief historian Captain Pierre Martin the 3rd Jr, but he found himself taken with a young lady in Columbus, Ohio, and so has temporarily laid down the reigns. But as a matter of tribute, The Captain's various relatives will on occasion be featured above and below, for nothing in the world can resist the crushing power of the Martin the III family jaws. Perhaps the only living match for those jaws would be Chuck Norris' roundhouse. Or maybe the fist behind his beard. But i doubt it.

2013 in the Old Pueblo 1.24.2013
2013 finds me back in the regular roost of Tucson, AZ, for perhaps a good long while. With the intention of somewhat localizing, I'm is studying at Wavelab Studios, playing out with a number of fantastic friends and musicians here (see joenovelli.com for shows backing up other folks), and doing the Marvin thing with the help of fantastic Tusconians Gabriel Sullivan and Geoffrey Hidalgo rounding out the band (Marvin continues on as spiritual advisor, of course). This may in fact form a new and different band, leaving the "Marvin" Moniker to represent my solo performances with Marvin...we'll see. Anyhow...catch our shows, listed to the right, and look for a couple more recordings to be finished soon. And say howdy! -Joe Lil' Tour w/ Rebecca!!
So it's been a while since I've writ, or travelled all that much with Marvin. But we're on it again here in a few days, rambling about with good friend Rebecca Marie Miller for a week. You probably know her from being awesome, or being the queen of Harrisburg, or singing and playing a multitude of instruments with the Mynabirds. Either way, she's rad, and we're going to have lots of fun, and zippity zip around the East and midwest for a hot minute. Look to the right for tour dates. Basically: PA > NC > TN > KY > OH > PA
I'll be picking up again with the travelling and shows over the next few months of progressing towards somewhere to live, so keep posted here or wherever you like. Yuppers. Happy Fall! -Joe (and Marvin) Road and Radio

Off on the road again, Marvin and I are taking a pit stop in the fair city of New Orleans to play on WWOZ's "Sittin at the Crossroads with Big D" today round 2, and the Allways Lounge with the magnificent Julie Odell tomorrow, and so on and so forth (look to the right for continuously updating show listings). SXSW was a blast, both playing with Marvin, and a couple times good friend Fen Ikner sitting in on the drums, and even once Lisa Gamble rocking the saw to whole new levels of cinematic delight, and a bunch of times getting to sit in with other wonderful friends, Nive Nielsen and the Deer Children, Seashell Radio, Craig Marshall, and backing up Rebecca Miller with new and old friends from the Mynabirds. It was a blast. I'm tired! Now only another month of road-dogging before the paradise of a whole month pounding nails in VT. Anywho, catch Marvin and I along the way somewhere, or bring us to your town/festival and say hello. We're starting to get the "Sweet Heartache" single and EP onto radio and whatnot, but could use all the help we can get spreading the word about it. So by all means download it, share it with your friends till they download it, request it on your local college radio or NPR station, give it to the station, write a blog about it, give it to someone special who won't take offense at the decidedly non-gushing-love-song lyricism, etc. And have a lovely spring day!! -Joe and Marvin Road and Radio

Archived from a January posting:
The debut Marvin and the Cloud Wall studio single / mini-EP, "Sweet Heartache," on Angry Mom Records, is now available to download directly from the Music page (in the menu at the top of this site). Get you one! or 10. Send it to a friend. It's cheaper than a cheap beer. And louder. And better for you. The three songs that make up this mini-EP were recorded and produced by Keith "Touch" Saunders at Gold Coast Recorders and Running Water Labs, with additional recording by Joe Novelli at the old Autumn Ridge Farm in Trumansburg, NY (as always a huge "thank you" to Zug). All songs were written and performed by Joe Novelli. Keith Saunders also played the bass and percussion on all tracks, and Imani Coppola played the violins on "Sweet Heartache." Chris Jacobs designed the imagery and artwork for eventual printing to vinyl. These are all wonderful people so go check out there art and work as well, purty please. You can download it here in mp3 (192 kbps) or wav form (if you want the goods). The single itself of "Sweet Heartache" will shortly be available on I-tunes and all that jazz. And at shows there will be slick little stickers for sale (that look like the header on this website) with download codes for the mini - EP printed on the back. If you like it spread the word and tell folks and get them to download it too! And then tour tour tour till late spring...See you out there! "Live at Autumn Ridge" OUT & "Sweet Heartache" on its way!
After a couple months of respite in Tucson, AZ, logging a good 20 shows around town while here as Marvin and the Cloud Wall or accompanying other folks, Joe and Marvin are about to hit the road again to celebrate the download release of "Live at Autumn Ridge" (available right now to download from the Music page on this site), as well as the first M&tCW studio single "Sweet Heartache." It will soon be available as a single download at Itunes (and all the other online purveyors). And, even better, you will be able to get it right here from the Music page and download it as the full 3 song mini-ep! Check back often as it'll be coming out within the next two weeks for your listening pleasure. PS you can preview the "Sweet Heartache" single in the audio player at the bottom of this page!
The 3 song EP was recorded by Joe and producer / engineer / mixer extraordinaire Keith "Touch" Saunders at Gold Cost Recorders and Running Water Labs in CT, as well as in the basement of the old Autumn Ridge Farm in Trumansburg, NY. And ever so many thanks to good friend Imani Coppola who piped a bit of violin over the airwaves for "Sweet Heartache." The tour, as told by the dates to your right, will be sprawling and continuously updating itself until petering out in the Northeast this Summer...keep on the look out. Off Southwesterly11.14.2011
Joe has been carousing about the country-side with good folks...Gabriel Miller Phillips, Saint Bernadette, Chamberlin, Only Living Boy, etc. It has been a whirlwind of wild times as per usual. Now, after a week of writing and exploring things in Vermont and a week of recording the "Live at Autumn Ridge" sessions (soon to be available for download), Marvin & the Cloud Wall hits the road again to meander southwesterly. Stopping along the way at favorite spots...Columbus, Lexington, Asheville, New Orleans and the like...December will find Joe and Marvin arriving in Tucson in the sun and splendor for a couple months of stationary activities. More writing. More shows. More recording. So that's that...come see Marvin & the Cloud Wall in one of these here towns (look right to the show listings)...and very soon we'll have the live record for download (though you can see videos of it on youtube, or here on the video/photo page)...and also very soon we'll have our first 7inch "Sweet Heartache" ready for purchase (and/or download). Whoop! -M&tCW End of the World Update5.21.2011
Spring has sprung, thankfully. And so far nobody has been swept off to heaven or hell and the world still seems to tick right along. So that's good. We'll keep on a'planning and a'playing. We did a spread of terribly fun shows over the last month -- met some fantastic new folks and new towns, and got to kick it with our favorites here, there and everywhere. Now we're in lull for a spell as Joe plays about with various folks: Saint Bernadette this week, Jennie Lowe Stearns this weekend, Gabriel Miller Phillips and Emily Arin the week following ... but snuck in there will be a smattering of M&TCW shows in NYC, Philly, maybe our new favorite town Harrisburg. And then Joe will be gearing up for another mammoth summer of touring (see Joe's Page for updates on all of that). But, with any luck, before that starts we'll set up another run down to Lexington and back to do a spot of recording with the wonderful gents of These United States. So keep tuned in and we'll do the same. By the way, we're looking for a town to live in ... any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. xoxo -M&TCW A rousing romp southerly for SXSW3.14.2011
It's been a good while since the Captain has written, but we're tagging along on another tour while Joe performs with Saint Bernadette ... currently we are en route to Austin, Texas for the SXSW festival, stopping for merriment here and there along the way. So I'll document our travels with my usual ramblings and bitings. Yesterday we had lunch with Uncle Stevesy (creator of the legendary Astral Slide Guitar) in Knoxville, then bumbled along to Memphis for a late evening bite of BBQ (and BB Kings, as pictured below). Tonight shall find us a'roost in Dallas with friends. And off to Austin tomorrow...time to get weird. -Captain Pierre Martin the 3rd Jr. 1/2 a country down11.24.2010
It's been a good while since the last of these...my apologies...one gets all caught up in the whirl-wind-ing about. Columbus and the wondrous Jacobs family (and Joe's raygun--check out pics of it at their shop's site: The Trainyard Teahouse) were fantastic...Rocknrolling, hangin in the park, making sushi, and creating the raygun whilst watching Teen Wolf, Big Trouble in Little China, and Revenge of the Nerds...HECK YEAH! Here I am eating Joe and Lexx for good measure....for teeth do make a fine framing of things. And next up: Chicago was grrrrrrand thanks in large part to Collin and Kat ... check out this Delorian sitting idly by in a coffee-shop...go Marty go! And then we bolted to Minneapolis for a rowsingly bon-a-fied Palmerizing 2 days in a row! (anybody who knows Palmers bar and how kindly they are to their musicians know what a richly Jameson soaked couple days it makes for). Kicked back with are good friends at Half Door records, touring buddies Poverty Hash, celebrated Cyn Collins Birthday with a buncha great bands (check out Hastings 3000 for he's rad)...and even got to spend an extra day in town watching fantasy movies with great friends due to a blizzard / poorly organized art collective venue shows. Then on to Kansas City where Lee's Summit was not the hottest sunday night ticket, but we played with a great band called Spouse from the northeast, and ended up playing to a bunch of LA actors / film folks after their wrap party, who were a riot, and bought a ton of our crappo burnt cds (GAS!). Then another botched art collective show (come-on now! our generation has the tools to be the most well-organized, artistically successful yet...only a good bit of lazyness / lameness to blame for day of show-cancelations when bands are touring far and wide on nary a shoe-string). But that's all well and good because it inspired us to go do a day off's work with Joe's uncle Stevesy, who builds the Astral Slide guitars, and is pretty much the sole reason for Joe's musical livelyhood (GO CHECK OUT Novelli Guitars!!!!)...hung with the Hammer window washing crew a bit, who rock...then met up with some of our best buds Only Living Boy to galavant together around the southeast for a few days...having a good old time in no small way in Asheville's best new rock n roll dive bar the Get Down (which we've all been needing in that town for long long long time), and the good ol' pres pub in knoxville, allan and patti's wondrous lil' establishment in Morristown (the DownTown), and Snug Harbor in Charlotte....a damn fine weekend with over-done glorious nights to spare and some of our favorite people in the world. My hunger was cropping up again round asheville, and i sought to prove that hippies do really taste better by eating a few and documenting it, but none were to be found when the hunger pang struck--who woulda thought in asheville there could be no proper hippie youngsters readily available for a light munching? So instead this here Vance monument was settled on, for no obelisk, large or small, is a match for these jaws. I will swoop down from the heavens and take you out!
Anyhow...we played athens which was ghostly quiet but the bartender Casey was a real sweetheart. And then we Rocked out in Birmingham to a spare Thanksgiving week Tuesday crowd...but those who were there were great...one of the nicest sound-fellows yet (hope your kid's better today Danny!)...and a fantastically perfect Rock dive called the Nick where just about everybody and their mom has played at some point. And now to the hot heavy wet brilliant beast of a city that is New Orleans...at the same time our most worldy, and somehow most viscerely American city. Love it...until next!!
